Simple Payback Measures

Energy Analysis

Insight will work at a portfolio level to analyze your kWh cost. This allows us to determine your baseline average costs and identify your highest cost energy use index (EUI) – based on actual utility data and facility square footage. We then prioritize your highest-cost facilities and capital investment recommendations to reduce costs, bringing them down to your baseline.

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Control / Covid Mitigation

Every day, businesses and residences subject people to poor indoor air quality. HVAC systems distribute air that could contain viruses, allergens, mold, bacteria, fungi, odors, smoke, or other harmful particulate matter. This routinely leads to illness, allergy symptoms, fatigue, and low productivity. Works to neutralize or to remove harmful elements in your indoor air.

Electronically Commutated Motors (ECMs)

After the compressors, fans are one of the highest energy consumers in a refrigeration system. Improving efficiency by moving to EC motors is one of the most cost-effective upgrades available. A typical refrigerated cabinet, EC motors can improve system efficiency by 20-25%. Upgrading your case and coil fans to ECMs is a quick way to reduce cost on smaller necessary fans required to run 100% of the day.

Ems Control Upgrades

EMS equipment and hardware become obsolete as newer technologies emerge in the marketplace. Sometimes parts are no longer available, and algorithms become outdated. Either way, your product becomes at risk. Temperature-dependent product costs rise along with cost efficiencies, costing you more than necessary in electricity to run these older systems. We will evaluate your store/facility and design the most energy-efficient and cost-effective solution to suit your needs.

Anti-sweat Control

Refrigerated, low-temperature door cases have heaters in the door and door frames designed to keep condensation and moisture from the building and leaking onto the floor. As store temperature and humidity (dew point) in the store environment fluctuate based on climate zone and the time of the year, during closed periods, reducing the amount of time the heaters need to be on. Instead of simply running all the time, we can install controls to cycle these heaters on and off only as often as required to remove moisture. With the proper sensors and control components, you can put these savings in the bank, not your utility bill, and still have a safe store with no moisture condensation on your doors.

Building Automation Controls Systems

We offer control and access from your smartphone or smart device for visibility of your refrigeration systems, HVAC, lighting, pumps, chillers, heating units, ice machine cycle rates, and many more equipment types you would seek to have remote control of within your facility. Utilizing the technology available from the app will also reduce time spent on maintenance calls. Technicians have access to system functionality from an app on their smartphone to save time going back and forth from the roof to the areas being served on service calls.

Total Lighting Solutions

Understanding the rapidly changing technology around commercial lighting is important. Fortunately, Insight experts are always one step ahead of the curve. If you are looking to increase safety and security, enhance performance, or create a more inviting space for employees and customers, we can help.
LED LIGHTING RETROFITS Pairing existing fluorescent bulbs such as T-12 or T-8 to a lighting retrofit for LED lighting reduces overall electrical use and adds overall lighting quality. We partner with several network partners nationally for a value-adding measure for your energy reduction project as an additional opportunity to meet your energy reduction goals.

Energy Management System (EMS) Installation

Today, technologies are available to allow you to have full control and visibility of every aspect of equipment in your locations. Control of refrigeration equipment, HVAC, lighting, outside air, water, and heat is more efficient through an EMS system. Controls enable full visibility of temperatures in your refrigerated cases, environmental temperature-controlled areas, and lighting usage. We can evaluate your store or facility and design the most energy-efficient and cost-effective solution to suit your needs. Whether it is one location or a thousand, our experience and capabilities will be working to meet your goals.

Variable Frequency Drives

VFDs are a simple way to reduce energy costs on motors required to run to keep your system operating and optimized. Efficient control strategies are robust and effective when every available RPM rate can be controlled to match the load requirements, saving you money on energy costs by lowering these run rates when load requirements and conditions allow. We have decades of experience in installation, programming, and commissioning VFDs as either one for one motor in a single location or at a large volume with multiple VFDs in many locations.

Construction Commissioning

All buildings start with design. We have years of experience making sure your intended design transforms into a fully functional store. We have an unbiased commissioning agent review plans, work with your General Contractor, and install to ensure all best practices are used during and after the construction phase, including post-start-up verification. We provide the expertise that allows you to focus on your business while we perform Quality Assurance (QA) with our proven KPIs and milestones; we see the job through to completion, providing a comprehensive report, and follow up with responsible parties in scope to ensure completion.

High-Efficiency Rack Upgrades

Many advancements have been made in operating efficiencies for refrigeration racks. Whether a digital scroll high-efficiency design or a reciprocating compressor design with digital technologies, these racks offer a lower energy cost while running than most predated existing equipment running today. Our team of engineers will evaluate the current operating efficiencies and new high-efficiency rack operating costs to determine if the cost investment meets your hurdle rate for an energy measure to consider. In some cases, rebates or incentives to upgrade this “back of the house” equipment are available to offset initial costs and reduce maintenance costs long term.

100% Turnkey Projects

We offer full turnkey solutions, allowing you to go about your normal business once your energy project begins. We manage the project from day one through completion with project management, procurement of materials, resource scheduling, facility management schedule communication, and every other detail.

Energy Alarm Notifications

Energy Alarm Notifications

Sustainability is as important to us as it is to you, as is maintaining the integrity of energy measures you have invested in. Visibility of changes in your system over time provides you the opportunity to address the root cause of mechanical deficiencies that naturally occur in any store/facility that can lead to a controls change that will cost you additional unnecessary energy costs. Instead of seeing rising energy costs after the fact, we can provide controls algorithms to alert you that any energy control strategy has been compromised so you can take proactive action.

Visual Control Center (VCC)

We can provide a visual touchscreen wall-mounted computer integrated into your energy management system with a color-coded floor plan custom-designed for each unique layout of your store.
Your employees can visually see which case is in alarm, saving you the time and labor costs it takes to determine which case is warm. This can also save you an overtime service call if you choose to move the product. The “VCC” also has custom views and temperature adjustments available for your HVAC status, a lighting page with status, and the ability to push a touch toggle switch for timed override events such as inventory of sign/light re-lamping. An additional benefit is the e-mail capability to directly send to designated points of contact in the event of an alarm. You will have visibility for alarms resulting in a service call or a service call you can avoid. You and your store employees will have a visual exact layout of your store and access to data at your fingertips.

Problem Store Survey

Our energy optimization team specializes in the energy field and functions as our on-ground technical team in mechanical refrigeration. The team is built on experts who started in basic refrigeration and evolved into energy management and controls as their experience levels and time in the trade increased. We can send one of our experts to be an unbiased “second set of fresh eyes” to evaluate, diagnose and prepare a comprehensive report of all items requiring repairs to fix your issues and gain control of ongoing maintenance issues.

Medium Temperature Door Installation

Closing the door on your medium temperature cases can save you 2/3 of the load on these cases, leading to significant energy reduction due to decreased caseload on your refrigeration equipment. We can evaluate and engineer the new load calculations, implement new control strategies to operate the compressor racks in a new, more efficient strategy, and add capacity load shedding capabilities to the compressors for effective control. A decreased caseload drives lower energy costs. An additional benefit is an extended compressor life cycle. Doors enhance the look of the product on your shelf, keep refrigeration air curtains within the case and brighten the customer experience in the facilities.

Commissioning

Insight commissioning services ensure that a building’s engineered systems are installed, programmed, and operating properly and as specified.
To ensure a new building’s systems are correctly installed a commissioning (Cx) program led by an experienced and certified Insight Commissioning Agent (CxA) may be incorporated into all building phases, including design, construction, and start-up. Likewise, a retro-commissioning process is used to identify and improve less-than-optimal energy performance related to an existing building’s equipment and control systems.
